Carmen Beaton, 20 from Dingwall found her love for singing and music from an early age. She was always part of school choirs and played the violin. Growing up Carmen participated in Feis Rois where she learned guitar and songwriting. She developed her skills writing songs and recording herself with the help of music organisation Music Plus during her school years, then after leaving school went on to study music at college. There formed her first band Almostfolk where she was on lead vocals, they performed many festivals and pubs.
Moving on she went on to become a duo with one of the band members Kenna Ross, they created Carma. Carmen as lead vocals and Kenna as the pianist. The band developed as Carmen added the ukulele to the band and Kenna would add harmonies. Their sound is very melodic and soothing. Together they have performed various important gigs such as Celtic Connections, Edinburgh Fringe, Belladrum, XpoNorth and Jocktoberfest. The girls have also performed on local radio station MFR and a tv show on STV called Live at Five. As well as performing they have been recording in the studio and created an EP of original material called ‘Serendipity’ which has been put on Spotify, iTunes and Apple Music.
Carmen was pleased to be a part of the charity single Stardust when asked to sing along as it is for a good cause, it is important that we raise enough money to help people living with Cancer locally in Nairn
