My name is Kim Brown, AKA“Kitty Black”. I have been singing and had a deep love of music all my life as well as having a passion for the stage and acting. My professional music career started about 14 years ago. I also discovered my love of writing and recording original material, using music as a kind of therapy for myself, and others who may listen, writing about my own life experiences and those of various people from throughout my life. There truly is no better inspiration for music than real life and real people! I got together with my best mate and music partner Jamie Williamson and we spent the next 10 years writing and recording songs whenever we could and had the pleasure of performing them live in venues such as the Ironworks and at Belladrum festival with our band “The Kitty Black Band”. The experience of recording prompted me to want to learn the skills myself and I have since gained an HNC in sound production from the UHI North Highland College where I received student of the year which was a very proud moment for me .
I am also enjoying the process of writing for the stage and recently put ona show at The Little theatre Nairn, titled “The Day the Divas Stopped the Deathray” for which I received excellent feedback and praise from both the venue and the local community. I am working on an original musical at the moment to stage in the future and have created music for local pantos, again starring in this years production, writing short musical pieces to be included in the show, proving it is never too late to follow your dreams!
I have had some interesting experiences through song writing. I was asked to write the official anthem for the centenary celebration for Nairn County FC, and also wrote a charity single for the local school where I was choirmaster, and a play to showcase it. The children had a positive and memorable experiences recording both!! I am VERY proud to be part of the “Stardust Project” in a guest vocal capacity as I have lost my Mum, Mum in law, Aunty, and close family friends to cancer and was at my sister in laws side while she fought breast cancer! I will continue to work as hard as I can to support and advance the cause, any way I can, for a long time to come!
